Building a solidarity economy for trans people is up to all of us.
Historically most of the resources provided by major LGBT funders and Government stakeholders were mostly allocated to organisations lacking in meaningful support and sensitivity to the Trans BPOC community.
As we emerged to fill this gap in services and advocacy we also saw an extreme lack in leadership development for Black, POC and Immigrant Trans populations, integrating a healing and/or trauma informed analysis within our political work, and need for greater connectivity within Trans and LGB movements.
Our community members work entirely on a volunteer basis, have limited training and capacity, and limited access to tangible resources - we are most affected by homophobia, transphobia, institutional racism, ableism and classism yet our communities often are left out of the funding equation.
Thats why your support is so vital to our work.
The funds we raise here help with:
Trainings to develop the capacity and strategy of Man.ish Cave leadership
Programming that adequately address issues directly affecting the community, like housing insecurity, legal battles, and gender affirming medical support
Compensation of BPOC trans and non-binary people for their hours of community work that have gone unpaid for too long
Monthly events to bring in various professionals and creatives to facilitate activities (i.e Councillors, Social workers, care givers)
Costs to improve visibility and build trust with the Man.ish Cave community
Establishing more structure, stability and support to the Team so that we can continue to deepen and develop Man.ish Cave’s impact
