“Unwind” A conversation, dinner and a celebration

Dear community members,

We invite you to our first event of the New Year. A Peer Support event followed by dinner and an easy going party to celebrate our new office and workspace.

THIS EVENT IS A 2 PART EVENT

PART 1. Peer Support Event @ 16:00

After a tumultuous time where we are all trying to navigate another year of the COVID-19 pandemic, both as a society and on an individual level, we want to provide our community of Man.ish Cave the opportunity to get together and unwind. Inspiring and encouraging each other to share our deep(est) feelings and thoughts which will allow us to rekindle not only our friendships but to also feel more strongly connected to the bigger picture. We have missed you all and are looking forward to welcoming you!

This month we’re going to be talking about the winter holiday period and how we as BPoC Queers navigate these times. The holiday period can have a strong emotional charge: many people are excited to spend time with loved ones and by the promise of a new calendar year but others can find this time stressful because of not having a supportive space to celebrate in or not being able to celebrate. All are welcome to come and decompress with us starting at 16:00. We’ll touch on things like (chosen) family, celebrating or not and returning to our familiar rhythm after the holidays.

After this session, we will be serving refreshments, dinner and drinks at 18:00.

PART 2. Opening Celebration @ 19:30

Finally! we will be officially opening our new activity and workspace located at Paasheuvelweg 8 1105 BH Amsterdam. We invite you to join the celebration starting at 19:30 with the opening seminar after which we will enjoy some chune from DJSoulFania. Drinks will be served. The community will be introduced to the space and hear plans of physical improvement and how the community can engage with said space.

🛑PLEASE NOTE🛑

This event is open to All Black Queer and Trans People, Queer and Trans People of Colour and Friend as well wishers of Man.ish Cave.

Since we will be providing refreshments dinner and drinks, we would appreciate it if you could sign up through this form to let us know you’re attending. However, if you are unable to sign up, you are still welcome to join us.

Man.ish Cave Workout

As members of Man.ish.Cave we strive to take care of our community. To continue this work we also want to make sure that we as a community can come together and work out virtually and hopefully soon, in person. We’ve been providing you with peer support and now we want to support you in gaining physical stability and discovering more of your inner strength that brought you this far in life.

The first workout session of this year will be held online on May 8th at 12PM. During this session we will do a total body workout aptly named Boss Level (equipment: yoga mat or large towel and water). At the start of the session you will receive the workout sheet that we will be using.

You can sign up to receive the link and join the workout through this form.

At the start of the session we will also share some of our future plans that include camping trips, hiking and a complementary booklet with healthy vegan meals (on a budget) that are quick, easy and delicious.

So no matter your fitness level or whatever your goals may be, let’s go through this journey together and Super Saiyan (shoutout to Dragon ball Z) the ish out of these workouts!

Peer Support: Too Late To Apologize

We’ve all seen and experienced some cringe worthy apologies. “I’m sorry but…”, “I didn’t know you were so sensitive….” , “can’t you take a joke?” A bad apology can ruin a friendship, destroy a community, or end a career.

And yet, a bad apology is really easy to make. Pride can prevent us from understanding how our actions affect others. A fear of rejection might hinder an acknowledgement that we may have hurt someone we love.

Learning how to give and accept apologies can create environments where authentic and nuanced relationship building can happen. In this workshop, we’ll think together about what exactly makes a good apology. What can apologies teach us about our own values and integrity? What types of things are you willing to apologize for? What does it take for you to accept an apology? How does our socialization affect how we deal with apologies? And how can we build apology positive space and futures?

Let’s get vulnerable and uncomfortable together!
